Foot: Olympique de Marseilles is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its victory in the UEFA Champions League

Marseille is in celebration today, Friday, May 26. The city is celebrating the victory of Olympique de Marseille (OM) in the UEFA Champions League in 1993.

Bernard Payan, Mayor of the city of Marseilles opened the celebration in front of the City Hall altar, followed by a replay of the OM- Milan match.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of OM’s triumph, La Provence has put together an exceptional 124-page magazine that revisits the 1992-93 journey through original stories, interviews with the various protagonists who relive the final, all accompanied by numerous photos. This magazine can be found at newsstands on Friday, May 26th.

The performance of the team is still legendary, as no French club has won the prestigious trophy since that mythical May 26th, 1993, in Munich. That’s why they consider to be «the first forever and the only one»

To celebrate this important date in a worthy manner, the city hall and all the Olympique de Marseille supporters have planned numerous festivities and events.

A giant human chain is planned.

On social media, Marseille’s supporters’ groups have called for a massive gathering during the replay of the final on a giant screen installed on the Bargemon Esplanade (in front of the city hall) to set off as many smoke flares as possible to ensure a spectacle.

In addition, fans plan to create an enormous human chain, the largest ever seen. La Provence reports that a grand celebration will also take place on the square in front of City Hall, with various activities starting from 6 PM, including food, music, and more.

This is a moment that promises to be engraved in the city’s history, as the Marseille City Hall has never before invested so much effort in honoring the conquerors of AC Milan (1-0).
