Football: Aliko Dangote, future owner of Valenciennes?

The French second division club Valenciennes, led by Eddy Zdziech, is up for sale through the KPMG firm. It could soon be owned by a wealthy African businessman who made his fortune in cement, as reported by the sports daily «l’Equipe».

According to a source close to the Valenciennes leadership, “the sports director of a major industrial group in sub-Saharan Africa was present at the Hainaut stadium on Saturday evening for the match against Paris FC. This would be his second visit to Valenciennes to study the feasibility of buying 100% of VAFC’s shares. Contacts have really intensified last week between the Zdziech family and the African billionaire who made his fortune in cement”, as reported by L’Equipe.

All indicates that the African billionaire in question is Aliko Dangote, the wealthiest man in Africa. It seems he is interested in expanding his investments into the sports industry. This is not a surprise given that he had previously expressed interest in purchasing Arsenal, the English Premier League club in vain.
