Football/Barcelona shines in Saudi Arabia: Bilbao 2-0 in Supercup final
FC Barcelona triumphed over Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup on Wednesday evening in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, securing a 2-0 victory. With this win, the Blaugranas advanced to the final, where they will face the winner of the Real Madrid vs. Mallorca match.
From the outset, Barcelona displayed their dominance with a strong offensive performance. Just 17 minutes into the game, Gavi opened the scoring, finishing off a precise cross from Baldé following a ball recovery by Raphinha. This goal gave Barcelona confidence, but Bilbao quickly responded, especially through Iñaki Williams. The striker had several opportunities but was unable to beat an outstanding Wojciech Szczęsny in goal (20th, 43rd, 45th).
After the break, Barcelona extended their lead early, with Gavi providing a brilliant assist to Lamine Yamal, who calmly slotted the ball past Unai Simón in the 52nd minute. Despite Bilbao’s efforts, including the introduction of Nico Williams, they failed to get back into the game. The Basques had two goals disallowed for offside (89th), and Barcelona held firm until the final whistle.
This victory sees Barcelona qualify for the final, where they will aim to secure their first trophy of the season. For Bilbao, this marked their first defeat in 15 matches.
