Football: Everton welcomes nigerian international Toni Payne from Sevilla
Everton announced this Friday the arrival of Nigerian international forward Toni Payne, who transferred from Sevilla. This signing marks an important moment for the Blues, who welcome a 29-year-old player with solid experience in the women’s Liga after six years spent in Spain.
“I am very happy to become an Everton player. It was my dream to play in the UK and in a league as strong as the WSL (Women’s Super League, England’s top women’s division)”, Payne expressed to the Toffees’ media.
Toni Payne was born in Alabama and initially represented the United States internationally at the youth level. However, she switched allegiance to play for Nigeria at the senior level, since totaling 21 appearances with the Super Falcons. She also participated in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Australia and New Zealand, where Nigeria was narrowly eliminated by England in the round of 16.
With this transfer, Everton strengthens its attack by securing the services of an experienced and talented player, who will undoubtedly bring a new dynamic to the team in their quest for success in the WSL.
