Football: Kylian Mbappé expected to return with protective mask after nose fracture at Euro 2024
Kylian Mbappé suffered a broken nose during the match against Austria at Euro 2024. Despite this injury, he is expected to return to the field wearing a protective mask, announced Philippe Diallo, the president of the French Football Federation.
After undergoing radiological examinations at the hospital in Düsseldorf, Mbappé returned to the team’s base near Paderborn (North Rhine-Westphalia). The medical staff confirmed that he would not require surgery, but a special mask would be made to allow him to resume competition after a period of recovery.
The French team’s evening was overshadowed by Mbappé’s unfortunate injury, which occurred in the 86th minute of the match against Austria when he collided with the shoulder of Austrian defender Kevin Danso while attempting a header.
Although France won their first Euro 2024 match against Austria (1-0), the injury to their star player is a concern for coach Didier Deschamps. The team struggled to overcome the Austrians.
France’s next challenge will be on Friday against the Netherlands, who also started their campaign with a victory against Poland (2-1) in Group D. Mbappé’s presence, even with a protective mask, will be crucial for Les Bleus in this competition.
