Football/Ligue1: Lyon – Marseille (1-0)
The Lyonnais climb out of the relegation zone in Ligue 1 with their home victory (1-0) against a timid Marseille side this Sunday evening.
It’s a clash, even if the confrontation between the eighth and fifteenth in Ligue 1 may temper that term, starting with a crazy and bold move : a shot launched right onto Anthony Lopes’ crossbar, from the center circle at kickoff, by Marseille’s midfielder Amine Harit.
However, Marseille was never more dangerous than in those three unlikely first seconds, and the Olympico shifted in favor of OL, victorious at home (1-0) to finally climb out of the relegation zone on Sunday night.
Two months ago, Lyon suffered a 3-0 defeat at the Vélodrome in a postponed match following the serious incidents at the end of October in Marseille. At that time, OL had only one victory in Ligue 1 and seemed destined for Ligue 2.
Today, they are a more credible team, theoretically strengthened during the winter transfer window, and capable of generating the intensity needed to make a difference at times.
While Marseille held possession in the first half, Pierre Sage’s men were more incisive, with a very lively Ernest Nuamah. The captain, Alexandre Lacazette, once again proved decisive, using his goal-scoring skills to break the deadlock (1-0, 37th minute) before hitting the post (43rd minute) just before halftime.
