Football : PSG plays against Rennes this sunday… without marquinhos
PSG may face their match against Rennes this Sunday without one of their key players. According to L’Equipe, Marquinhos is at risk of missing this game.
Marquinhos hasn’t had a perfect week of training. For the third consecutive day, the Brazilian once again couldn’t participate fully in the collective session at the PSG Campus on Friday morning. And yet, on Sunday evening, the Parisian club will face Rennes in the league. It’s a high-stakes match that the French champions could play without one of their strong men.
The captain of the Parisian team, who is still suffering from an Achilles tendon injury, is likely to be rested in preparation for future fixtures. The coaching staff, not wanting to take any risks ahead of the return leg against Real Sociedad, believes it is better to give him a break, especially since the league title is almost already secured. This absence allowed Joane Gadou (17 years old) to participate in training on Friday.
This won’t be the first time the Brazilian has been rested by his coach this season. In the game against LOSC, which preceded the Champions League round of 16 first leg against Real Sociedad, he also started as a substitute.
Nevertheless, Marquinhos remains one of the most utilized PSG players this season. He has played 26 matches in all competitions, starting 24 of them. In terms of cumulative minutes, he is the 5th most used outfield player by Luis Enrique.
