Football: Zidane on his way to Bayern

After three years away from the field, Zinedine Zidane is on the verge of making a comeback on the scene, this time in a league he hasn’t experienced before. The 1998 Ballon d’Or winner could replace Thomas Tuchel in Munich. Negotiations have already been concluded. Even in the event of triumph in the Champions League, Zizou will leave his apron behind.

According to El Mundo Deportivo, the former French international has agreed to answer Bayern Munich’s call. He became the number one candidate for the coaching position at the Allianz Arena since Xabi Alonso chose to continue with Bayer Leverkusen.

The French technician even enjoys unanimous support in discussions on the subject. His experience at the highest level, his charisma, and his numerous qualities are appreciated. It now only remains to finalize the personal terms of his engagement with the Bavarian authorities.

According to the same source, his former teammate in the French national team, Franck Ribéry, is expected to assist him in his new mission. The name of Julian Nagelsmann was also mentioned among the candidates to take over at Bayern. However, he has ultimately decided to extend his contract as the manager of the German national team.

Bayern will only be Zidane’s second club. So far, his coaching experiences have been limited to stints on the sidelines of Real Madrid. Nevertheless, they have been productive stints, as he was the first coach to win the Champions League three years in a row.

Ironically, Real will be Bayern’s next opponent in the Champions League semi-finals. The news of Zidane’s arrival comes at a rather suspicious moment.

Zidane will not be the first French coach to lead Bayern Munich. Before him, Willy Sagnol also had this honor. However, it was only on an interim basis and for a single match.
