In Burkina Faso, a training on the installation of metal culverts for sustainable road infrastructure !
The Ministry of Infrastructure of Burkina Faso organized a crucial training on the technique of installing metal culverts in Ouagadougou on Thursday, February 29th, 2024.
This training is a demonstration of the department’s commitment to the development and sustainability of road infrastructure in the country. At the National School of Public Works in Ouagadougou, 46 technicians from the 13 regions of the country are participating in this week-long training.
The objective is to equip them with the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to effectively install these metal culverts, essential for ensuring the stability and resilience of roads. Mahamadi Sawadogo, a civil engineer and trainer, emphasizes the importance of the training, which begins with a thorough understanding of the mechanical and hydraulic functioning of metal culverts.
The assembly of metal culverts of different diameters was carried out on Thursday, February 29th. According to Salfo Paceré, Director General of Road Maintenance, this technology provides a quick solution for replacing defective bridges, especially during the rainy season.
He also highlights the significant advantages of metal culverts, including their ability to quickly restore traffic, unlike concrete structures that require a prolonged waiting time before being opened to traffic.
Mamadou Compaoré, from the company SEAI Sarl, emphasizes the importance of metal culverts in the current context, pointing out that correct installation can ensure a lifespan of up to 50 to 75 years.
This approach offers a sustainable and effective solution for the construction and rehabilitation of roads, meeting current needs while ensuring the sustainability of road infrastructure in Burkina Faso.
