International: Meeting of Putin and Xi in Beijing at the New Silk Roads Forum
Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Beijing to meet his counterpart, Xi Jinping, at an important multilateral summit. The summit, which brings together representatives from more than 130 countries for the New Silk Roads Forum, aims to strengthen China’s international stature.
Vladimir Putin, as a leading guest, is making his first trip to a major world power since the war in Ukraine in 2022, which has helped isolate Russia on the international stage.
The two Presidents will discuss bilateral cooperation and international issues. They have already expressed their willingness to strengthen their economic and military cooperation to counter American hegemony.
Putin’s visit to Beijing is mainly symbolic. It allows China to show its support for Russia, especially in the context of Western sanctions related to Ukraine.
The personal relationship between Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin, whom they call “dear friends”, is a key element of this rapprochement. They seek to deepen their strategic mutual trust and consolidate their traditional friendship.
