Ivory Coast/ Fiftieth Anniversary of the International Cocoa Organization: A Renewed Commitment to the Future of Cocoa

A ceremony will be held this Tuesday in Abidjan to mark the Fiftieth Anniversary of the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO). This commemoration will bring together representatives of exporting and importing countries from all walks of life to discuss pressing challenges related to the sustainability of the cocoa industry and producer income.

Producer states face common challenges that require collective reflection and appropriate responses. Enselme Gouthon, Secretary General of the Coordination Committee for the Coffee and Cocoa Sectors (CCFCC), will be among the eminent personalities present. In addition to his recent appointment as President of the International Coffee Organization (ICO), Gouthon is deeply involved in the cocoa sector.

Founded in 1973 in response to fluctuations in cocoa prices on the world market and the concerns of producing countries about the volatility of their incomes, ICCO’s mission is to promote cooperation and coordination between cocoa-producing and consuming countries. It is headquartered in London, UK.

ICCO plays a leading role in regulating the cocoa market, promoting the sustainable development of the industry and facilitating international cooperation between actors in the sector. This Fiftieth Anniversary ceremony symbolizes the continued commitment to the prosperity of the cocoa industry and the search for joint solutions to overcome future challenges. It demonstrates the crucial importance of international collaboration in preserving this precious resource and improving the living conditions of cocoa farmers around the world.
