Lagos Fashion Week 2024: Where style and collaboration converge
Lagos Fashion Week in Nigeria is one of the most significant fashion events on the African continent. Launched in 2011, it has established itself as an essential platform for showcasing African designers and highlighting industry trends across the continent.
“Let me tell you, Nigerian designers are not here to joke around. No matter how many flowers or coins there are, it was an exceptional show filled with realistic fashion, vibrant colors, and diverse patterns, illustrating the extravagance of African fashion. I was really excited; I loved every piece, and the surprise appearance by Davido at the end was the cherry on top—simply perfect,” said Adaeze Cybil Mokaeze, film producer and content creator.
Nigerian afrobeats superstar Davido made a surprising appearance on the runway at Lagos Fashion Week 2024. Nominated for Grammy Awards, he captivated the audience with his modeling performance this time.
“I would say that Lagos Fashion Week 2024 is very inclusive. We have plus-size models and people of all backgrounds and sizes. For me, the highlight was Davido’s presence. Yes, it’s really inclusive, and I appreciate that,” explained Stephen Daniel, a content creator specializing in fashion and lifestyle.
Davido walked the runway for renowned menswear designer Ugo Monye, adding a unique touch to a show known for its traditional wedding attire, delighting the fashion week participants.
“It’s fantastic. I think brands are improving, the quality of work is rising, and the variety is expanding. I would like to see more women participating. So, yes, overall, it’s progressing, step by step,” stated Ivy Kakaiiiza, business development manager.
This annual event celebrates African style, fashion, and culture. This year’s theme is “Commune,” which honors the spirit of collaboration and creativity in African fashion.
