Liga / Barcelona: Professional sports director resigns after Xavi’s departure
After the departure of Xavi Hernandez, another leader leaves the FC Barcelona ship. The problems continue within FC Barcelona. A few weeks after sacking Xavi Hernandez, the Blaugrana club has just lost an important member of its administration. This individual has submitted his resignation.
Another part of the senior management structure of FC Barcelona is leaving by submitting his resignation. As reported by the Tot Costa program on Catalunya Ràdio, Xavier Budó, until now the director of professional sports at the club (excluding men’s football), has submitted his resignation and is currently negotiating the terms of his departure.
His theoretical role was to oversee the professional multisport sections of the club (basketball, handball, futsal, and roller hockey), as well as women’s football from the youth teams to the first teams, with a particular impact on La Masia, the club’s athlete residence. A former coach of Paula Badosa, Budó was presented in President Joan Laporta’s candidacy as a key element, but his role diminished from the start of the term.
It can be said without risk of error that Xavier Budó realized his power was limited by several aspects close to the president and that his opinion counted less and less. His discontent within the club was no secret and the announcement of his resignation did not come as a surprise within the organization.
With this new resignation, Xavier Budó joins the list of leaders who have left the club, such as former CEO Ferran Reverter, operations director Maribel Menéndez, Espai Barça director Ramón Rodríguez, director of sports management and liaison with La Liga Franc Carbó, Mateu Alemany, Markel Zubizarreta, and Jordi Cruyff.
