Mali: AES strengthens cooperation for greater security and regional integration
Under the leadership of General Assimi Goïta, President of the Transition and Chairman of the Sahel States Confederation, the ministers responsible for security from Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger recently met to harmonize travel and identity documents. This initiative aims to facilitate mobility within the Economic and Security Space (AES), strengthen security, and address the needs of the local populations.
Following the meeting, Brigadier General Mohamed Toumba commended the notable progress made by experts, particularly the validation of essential documents for regional integration.
President Assimi Goïta emphasized the urgency of making these innovations accessible, confirming the adoption of the Burkinabe passport and the Malian biometric card as models for the AES space. These tools, central to an ambitious plan to be rolled out by 2025, will simplify administrative processes while enhancing regional security. This initiative reflects the AES’s commitment to pragmatic cooperation and a joint approach to managing cross-border challenges.
The ministers unanimously acknowledged the crucial role of AES experts in this historic advancement, marking a decisive step towards improved mobility and solidarity among member states. President Assimi Goïta encouraged swift implementation, ensuring that these documents will become a concrete reality, serving the aspirations of the Sahelian populations.
