Mali/Counterterrorism: Authorities and military leadership rally around the supreme commander of the armed forces

An extraordinary meeting was held between the President of Mali, Colonel Assimi GOÏTA, and the country’s defense and security leadership in response to the urgent security challenges. This gathering followed the unfortunate terrorist attacks on September 17 in Bamako, which targeted sensitive sites.

As stated by the transitional president, it is now more necessary than ever “to remain vigilant and maintain an exemplary operational posture under all circumstances”. During this extraordinary meeting, Colonel Assimi GOÏTA, the supreme commander of the armed forces, issued new directives aimed at better addressing the ongoing security crisis.

The meeting also allowed the authorities to assess the overall security and operational situation across the national territory. According to Defense Minister of Mali, Colonel Sadio CAMARA , this gathering provided an opportunity to conduct an exhaustive review of security measures, reassess the threats, and offer additional guidance.

President GOÏTA reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to winning this war against the enemies of the Malian nation and reiterated his full support for the military hierarchy. During his address to the nation on the eve of the country’s independence celebration, President GOÏTA announced the acquisition of additional military equipment to further enhance the operational capacity of Malian fighters.

Malian military authorities are calling on their fellow citizens to provide steadfast support to the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) and, above all, to collaborate closely with the military in this war, which they describe as one of attrition.
