Mali: President Assimi GOÏTA honors women
The President of the Transition, Colonel Assimi GOÏTA, presided over the commemorative ceremony of International Women’s Day this Friday.
The President highlighted the importance of women in national development. He praised initiatives aimed at promoting women’s rights, particularly in the context of a multidimensional crisis where the resilience of Malian women is particularly remarkable.
He also paid tribute to the victims of terrorism and reiterated the importance of women’s contribution to Mali’s political and institutional transition. He emphasized the government’s efforts to integrate women into public spheres, as evidenced by the appointment of women to key positions.
Dr. COULIBALY Mariam MAÏGA, Minister for the Promotion of Women, Children, and the Family, thanked the President of the Transition for his unwavering support for women’s empowerment, highlighting progress in terms of female representation and combating violence against women. She underscored women’s continued commitment to national development and their solidarity in the face of Mali’s security challenges.
Significant progress has been observed in Mali, including the integration of women’s rights into the new constitution, thereby promoting their active participation in political and institutional reforms as well as decision-making bodies.
