Mali: President Assimi GOÏTA inaugurates a monument to the Malian army

In celebration of January 20, a date marking the creation of the Malian army, the President of the Transition, His Excellency General Assimi GOÏTA, laid the foundation stone for a monument dedicated to the military. This symbolic event is part of the commemorative activities of this historic day, which honors the commitment and sacrifice of the Malian armed forces.
The ceremony, filled with solemnity, was attended by the Prime Minister, the President of the National Transitional Council, senior military officials, and delegations of officers from Burkina Faso and Niger. These delegates are participating in the work of the Sahel States Confederation (AES), a strategic cooperation framework aimed at strengthening the bonds between Sahelian nations in the areas of defense and security.
In his speech, General Assimi GOÏTA emphasized the importance of this tribute to the armed forces, which represent a fundamental pillar of national sovereignty. “This monument will be a lasting symbol of recognition for the women and men who, at the risk of their lives, defend our nation against threats and work for peace and stability”, he declared.
The commemoration was also an opportunity to remind everyone of the challenges the Malian army faces in the context of the fight against terrorism and regional instability. President GOÏTA renewed his commitment to provide the armed forces with the necessary resources to meet these challenges while enhancing their professionalism and morale.
The presence of military delegations from Burkina Faso and Niger demonstrates the growing solidarity and cooperation between the member countries of the AES. This framework of collaboration enables the harmonization of efforts to address common threats, while sharing experiences and strategies to secure the Sahelian region.
