Mali: President Assimi GOÏTA receives OMVS High Commissioner

The President of the Transition of Mali, His Excellency Army General Assimi GOÏTA, granted an audience on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, to Mr. Mohamed ABDEL VETAH, High Commissioner of the Organization for the Development of the Senegal River (OMVS). Mr. ABDEL VETAH was carrying a message from His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould El-Ghazouani, President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and current Chair of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the OMVS.

During this meeting, Mr. ABDEL VETAH conveyed the fraternal greetings of His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould El-Ghazouani to President Assimi GOÏTA. He also reaffirmed the historical bonds of friendship and cooperation that unite the member states of the OMVS.

This audience provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss the organization’s initiatives in favor of sustainable development and the integrated management of the water resources of the Senegal River basin. The High Commissioner praised Mali’s efforts in preserving and rationally using the shared river resources, which are crucial for the socio-economic development of the sub-region.

President Assimi GOÏTA, for his part, reiterated Mali’s commitment to strengthening cooperation within the OMVS. He emphasized the importance of this organization in promoting equitable and sustainable management of water resources for the benefit of the riparian populations and the economies of the member states.
