The President of Mali’s Transition, Army General Assimi GOÏTA, chaired a high-level meeting at the Koulouba Palace as part of his presidency of the Sahel States Alliance (AES). This strategic meeting aimed to assess the actions taken since the first AES summit, held in July 2024 in Niamey, and to review the progress made in key sectors of this regional organization.

During the meeting, ministers and officials from the relevant departments presented a detailed report on the progress achieved in the three priority areas of the Alliance: Defense and Security, Diplomacy, and Development. These pillars form the backbone of the AES and are crucial for strengthening cooperation between Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso in a region marked by security and economic challenges.

In terms of defense and security, the focus was on strengthening the operational capabilities of the armed forces of the member countries, with increased coordination in the fight against terrorism and transnational threats. Efforts to share intelligence and implement joint operations have led to significant progress in securing the territory.

On the diplomatic front, the Malian presidency has worked to strengthen the international recognition of the AES by increasing exchanges with strategic partners and defending the interests of member states on the international stage. The goal is to make the Alliance a key player in regional and global discussions on Sahel stability.

In the area of development, several initiatives have been launched to improve food self-sufficiency, stimulate local economies, and strengthen basic infrastructure.

Through its leadership, Mali has encouraged the implementation of policies that promote industrialization and the valorization of local resources to ensure sustainable and inclusive growth. A few months before the next AES summit, this meeting allowed for an assessment of achievements and the definition of priorities for the future.
