Mali: Successful inter-Malian dialogue essential for peace and reconciliation

The steering committee for the inter-Malian dialogue for peace and reconciliation has intensified its actions in recent days towards institutions and stakeholders of the nation. Over the past few days, the steering committee has initiated consultations with various components of the nation to lay the foundations for this national gathering.

This information campaign began a few days ago with a session for traditional authorities, religious organizations, and community leaders. These meetings have all taken an inclusive, participatory approach and aim to foster a better understanding of this significant project and its implications for Mali.

The objective of this intensive information campaign undertaken by the steering committee towards the Republic’s institutions, independent administrative authorities, and stakeholders of the Malian nation in all its components, is to disseminate the terms of reference and accompanying documents. These preliminary discussions serve as the groundwork for the actual dialogue.

These preliminary discussions have allowed some of our compatriots to anticipate the discussions of the actual dialogue. This led the President to say, ‘we sensed a real desire to dialogue, to speak, to discuss’, stated the President of the Steering Committee, Ousmane Issoufi MAÏGA.

These meetings will be expanded to include political parties, civil society organizations, trade unions, and government institutions. They will take place in regions and embassies according to the steering committee’s program.

It is worth noting that the holding of the inter-Malian dialogue for peace and national reconciliation is one of the main projects promised by the Transition authorities since August 2020. This Dialogue serves as a stepping stone for the organization of upcoming inclusive elections in Mali.
