Mali : The recovery of the national economy will take off

In Mali, the economic recovery policy will enter a decisive phase in 2024 after the National Forum’s deliberations. The report from these sessions has been officially submitted to the head of state, Colonel Assimi GOÏTA, who initiated these discussions to identify ways and means to kickstart socio-economic development.

The objective is to transform Mali into an emerging country through endogenous development. In response to the economic and financial sanctions imposed on Mali by ECOWAS and UEMOA after the 2021 coup, Malian authorities have resolved to harness the country’s full potential for the benefit of its socio-economic development.

The National Forum held in Ségou, in the 4th administrative region of Mali on March 30 and 31, 2023, allowed the involved stakeholders to formulate concrete recommendations and develop appropriate strategies to implement the forum’s proposals for the revival of the Malian economy, aiming for sustainable development.

The report submitted to the head of state contains proposals and implementation strategies for the various recommendations of the National Forum. Among the suggestions is the ambition for Mali to transition from subsistence agriculture to industrial agriculture. It was also recommended that the private sector be at the forefront of operationalizing the proposed solutions.

The Forum, in its report, therefore requested the state’s support. Additionally, the enhancement of human resources in all economic sectors was proposed during the discussions at the Ségou Forum. The mining sector also received recommendations to facilitate product distribution.

It is the responsibility of the Malian authorities to ensure the strict implementation of the recommendations from this exchange framework for the effective achievement of the set objectives.
