Mali : Towards the writing of malian military history, an important step in the national defense restructuring process
As part of the national defense restructuring process, following the vision of the Head of State of Mali, Colonel Assimi Goïta, Mali embarks on the writing of its military history. This document, which will serve as a reference, will trace the evolution of the Malian army from the time of the empires to the present day, where transitional authorities are in the process of reorganizing the country’s defense system.
Entrusted to Professor Doulaye Konate and under the direction of the Minister-Counselor for National Security , Major General Yamoussa Camara, this document, to be written, aims to be a high-quality scientific work, addressing diverse aspects of the colonial period, including colonial conquest and economic exploitation of territories.
For the writing of this work, the involved parties will draw inspiration from both oral and written sources, as well as research conducted throughout the national territory and abroad.
The objective of having a document tracing the military history of the country is to ultimately have « a national army reflecting the social diversity of the nation in strict accordance with the provisions of the Fundamental Law, which makes national defense a sacred duty for every citizen ».
Additionally, this will contribute to strengthening internal cohesion within the armed forces, reviving patriotic fervor, and sharpening the spirit of sacrifice, fear of shame, and dishonor. These are values that were once embodied by illustrious predecessors such as Samory Touré, Babemba Traoré, El Hadj Omar, Koumi Diossé, Firhoum… or officers like Captains Diby Sylas Diarra, Sékou Traoré, and many others.
