Mathias Pogba given one year in prison for involvement in extortion plot
The verdict has been delivered in the case of attempted extortion and kidnapping involving Paul Pogba in 2022. Six individuals were tried, including Mathias Pogba, the older brother of the French international. Today, Mathias was sentenced to three years in prison, with two years suspended, and one year of actual prison time. However, he will be allowed to serve his prison sentence at home with an electronic bracelet, rather than being incarcerated.
The six defendants, who were involved to varying degrees in the extortion attempt of 13 million euros from Paul Pogba, learned the nature of their sentences after the Paris Prosecutor’s requisitions. Among them, Roushdane K, the main defendant, was sentenced to 8 years in prison with detention, while Adama C, considered an intimate friend of Paul Pogba, was sentenced to 5 years in prison with immediate detention.
The sentences were harsh for all defendants. Machikour K, Roushdane’s brother, was sentenced to 4 years in prison, with 3 years suspended, and will be placed under electronic surveillance. Mamadou M, a close associate of Paul Pogba, was sentenced to 5 years, with 12 months suspended, while Boubacar C was sentenced to 4 years, with 2 years suspended. All of them also received fines and 10-year prohibitions on carrying weapons.
Despite his denials of involvement in the extortion, Mathias Pogba has been heavily sanctioned in this case, which has deeply affected the football player’s inner circle.
