Mike Tyson lacks energy and loses to Jake Paul
Jake Paul, 27, dominated 58-year-old Mike Tyson from the third round onward, winning by unanimous decision on Friday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The highly anticipated fight failed to meet expectations, with Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) winning every round in the eyes of one judge, while the others gave Tyson (50-7, 44 KOs) one round each.
Tyson started strong but was shaken by three consecutive left hooks from Paul early in the third round and seemed to tire quickly afterward. After the fight, Tyson said, “I’m happy, I have nothing to prove to anyone but myself.”
Despite the pre-fight tensions, including low blows during press conferences and a slap from Tyson to Paul at the weigh-in, both fighters showed mutual respect afterward. Paul praised Tyson as “the greatest of all time,” while Tyson acknowledged Paul’s skill.
The fight, initially scheduled for July 20, had been postponed after Tyson required medical treatment for an ulcer flare-up. Paul, who began his boxing career in 2020, is now on a four-fight winning streak following his only loss to Tommy Fury in 2023. Tyson, who became the youngest heavyweight champion at 20, hadn’t stepped into the ring since 2005.
After the defeat, Tyson hinted that his boxing career might not be over, even joking about a possible fight with Jake’s brother, Logan Paul.
The fight was sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, consisting of eight two-minute rounds with both fighters wearing 14-ounce gloves instead of the usual 10-ounce gloves for heavyweights.
