Morocco:  British investors plan mega renewable energy project in the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region

A delegation of British investors, led by Brannan Tempest, CEO of Oblin Group specialized in engineering, supply, and construction of photovoltaic solar and wind systems, visited Dakhla on Tuesday and Wednesday last week. The objective of this visit was to explore investment opportunities in the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region of Morocco.

During their stay, the British investors had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the main ongoing projects in the region and witnessed its dynamic development at all levels.

 They had important meetings with local authorities, including the wali (governor) of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, Lamine Benomar, who highlighted the development in various sectors in line with the new development model for the Southern Provinces.

Another meeting took place with El Khattat Yanja, President of the Regional Council of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, during which major developments in the region were discussed.

 An ambitious regional development program for the period 2022-2027, with a total budget of 4.36 billion dirhams, was also presented to the investors.

During these meetings, Brannan Tempest announced his group’s plans to implement a large-scale renewable energy project producing green hydrogen and ammonia in the southern provinces of Morocco.

The CEO of Oblin emphasized that the exceptional climate of Dakhla, characterized by favorable winds and abundant sunlight, constitutes attractive assets for investments in renewable energies.

The mega-project, for which a significant for which a significant budget will be allocated, garnered great interest from local authorities and the British delegation.

 Brannan Tempest also indicated that the project would create 5,000 jobs, offering considerable economic opportunities for the region.

In addition to this large-scale project, the British delegation expressed their intention to establish a new green industrial zone to host manufacturers of photovoltaic solar panels and wind turbine blades. This initiative will contribute to strengthening the renewable energy sector in the region and encourage further investments in this promising field.

This visit marks a significant step in strengthening economic relations between the United Kingdom and Morocco, demonstrating the commitment of British investors to sustainable development and renewable energies.
