Music : MC Solaar makes his comeback after 7 years of absence from the music scene

One of the pioneers of French Rap, he was absent from the scene for many years. 7 years after his absence, MC Solaar returns with a single and a new album that will be released next March.

Mc Solaar, Pit Baccardi, Passi, Doc Gyneco left their mark on French Hip-hop in the 1990s.

But Claude Honoré M’Barali, better known by his stage name MC Solaar, didn’t let up. The French rapper with five Victoires de la Musique awards, absent for 7 years from the French Rap scene, has announced his return.

After his last album released in 2017, MC Solaar took sabbatical years, leaving his fans eager for his return. This year 2024, he comes back stronger with a new album titled « Lueurs célestes » (Celestial Gleams), scheduled for release on March 15th. For his grand return, one of the finest wordsmiths of the Francophone scene, and author of the hit « Solaar pleure » (Solaar Cries), gave fans a taste on Friday, February 23rd, by unveiling a new single titled « Ils dansent » (They Dance).

MC Solaar, in an interview with the French media France Inter, indicated the reasons for his long absence from the scene. « It’s time for creation and probably a mistake I made. When I was young, I learned about sabbatical years, meaning every 7 years we take a break, and I told myself, every 7 years I’ll work, so 2017-2024, and it also happens to be a leap year » he explains.

However, he didn’t sit idle during the 7 years of his absence. The rapper took the opportunity to indulge himself by exploring other horizons. « I went to places I didn’t know, cities I hadn’t been to, countries, whether it’s Germany or Ivory Coast. I watched the children grow up. I attended meetings with the SCPE and various unions, and then at some point, there was a desire to recreate after a few years of confinement, and we recreated a bit of joy », he says.
