Music: the « Musical Works of Cameroon » kick off

Starting this Thursday, February 8, 2024, Douala hosts the first stage of a series of reflection meetings on the structuring of the music industry in Cameroon. This program is called the « Musical Works of Cameroon ».

The six-month project is initiated by the Cameroonian Music Council (Ccm), with the support of French cooperation. The main objective, according to the steering committee, is to « contribute to the development of Cameroon’s cultural policy, to reflect on the issues, challenges, and prospects of music, a leading artistic and economic sector for the country, and to propose an approach to concrete solutions by establishing a framework document proposing the development scheme of the industry over a 10-year horizon ».

In detail, the aim is to create and structure a network of professionals across the entire territory; contribute to the training and professionalization of Cameroonian music stakeholders; and draft a document for the development of the music industry in Cameroon proposing the implementation of short, medium, and long-term objectives.

Thus, for three days, until Saturday, February 10, sixty professionals from the fields of production, promotion, and distribution, coming from the ten regions of Cameroon, are invited to the economic capital to examine the current state of the music industries in Cameroon.

Alongside this first stage on the current state, the program includes two other phases involving sector professionals: Identifying the most structured actors in the three aforementioned domains and providing them with capacity building; and developing the master plan for music in Cameroon.
