Niger: A diagnostic study on the digital economy at the center of a meeting in Niamey
The diagnosis of the digital economy is a process by which the state evaluates the level of penetration of services and digital uses across the entire national territory. In Africa, many countries have already undertaken this, allowing them to know which projects to implement within the framework of digital transformation.
In this perspective, the Minister of Communication, Posts, and the Digital Economy, Mr. Sidi Mohamed Raliou, officially launched a diagnostic study on Niger’s digital economy (Niger DE4A) last Wednesday.
The primary objective of this meeting is to inform all stakeholders about the World Bank’s realization of a diagnostic of the digital economy in Niger, similar to those already conducted in 43 African countries, and to present the methodology developed by the World Bank for conducting such a diagnostic.
The aim is to designate focal points in the respective entities for the necessary data collection for the diagnosis, and finally to define the next steps and agree on a schedule for completing the diagnosis.
“This evaluation of the development of the digital economy in Niger will provide policymakers with actionable and prioritized recommendations that can accelerate the digital transformation of the Nigerien administration and its socio-economic fabric”, stated the Minister.
It is important to note that the diagnosis of Niger’s digital economy will be carried out through a methodological approach focused on three pillars: first, assessing the current state of digital economy development in Niger; second, identifying challenges and opportunities for digital growth in Niger; and finally, making prioritized and sequenced recommendations on actions to unlock the potential of digital economy development.
