Niger/Anti-Terrorism Efforts: Criminals pursued by Combat Forces

Since the deadly terrorist attack targeting a military post on June 25 in the village of Tassia, in the Tillabéri region of southwestern Niger, combat forces have been pursuing the assailants. Air and ground operations are being conducted day and night against these enemies who have chosen to sow chaos among the combatants.

According to reports, the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) of Operation Niyya have carried out several actions between June 30 and July 3, 2024. Encouraging results have been recorded daily in these operations, and to date, the Nigerien army has announced the neutralization of more than a hundred terrorists.

According to Nigerien military authorities, the combatants are conducting a series of cordon-and-search missions in weekly markets. In addition to ground operations, aerial operations are also continuing in the area to neutralize the terrorist groups responsible for the Tassia attack last week.

It should be noted that this area of the Republic of Niger, near the tri-border area, is seriously threatened by terrorist acts, prompting the FDS to intensify their operations, which have yielded significant results against the enemies. This reflects the will and determination of the combatants, galvanized by the country’s authorities, to defend their homeland and tirelessly work for the return of peace and stability.

The historic meeting announced in Niamey between the leaders of the AES countries will focus on this issue of counterterrorism in the three states, to finalize strategies for a more effective fight and to protect the area against all security threats to the people.
