Niger: «Attacking Niger, It’s The End Of ECOWAS», The Strong Message Of Minister Mohamed Toumba
Is the military operation announced in Niger by the Economic Community of West African States, for the return to constitutional order and the recovery of President Mohamed Bazoum still relevant? For the CNSP authorities in Niger, it is not possible for the former president to be released or reinstated as the country’s first authority.
«Attacking Niger is the end of ECOWAS. Under such circumstances, we cannot say that we will have to attack Niger and replace the ousted president. Militarily, this is not possible and it is a fantasy» said General Mohamed Boubacar Toumba, Niger’s Interior Minister.
General Mohamed Boubacar Toumba, reiterated that the return of Mohamed Bazoum to power would be a wishful thinking.
«We say it loud and clear, on one condition, if we force, perhaps, it is his body that must be picked up. If that is the objective, perhaps the attack could be justified. If this is not the case, I do not see under what conditions we could return to try to replace President Bazoum» General Mohamed Toumba said.
In his speech, the Minister of Niger Mohamed Boubacar Toumba, criticized the threat of foreign military intervention to free President Bazoum, calling it utopia. He wanted a dialogue to take place to analyze the reasons for the coup and how to move forward in a peaceful way.
