Niger/Crime Fighting: Nigerien army busts two theft networks

The Nigerien defense and security forces are more determined than ever to rid the country of delinquents and terrorists. In terms of fighting crime, two other groups of wrongdoers have fallen into the hands of the judicial police, and the members will be held accountable for their malicious acts. According to information, these are two organized gangs of young people, specializing in armed robbery, often operating at night in residences in Zinder, a region located in the Central-East of Niger.

The modus operandi of the first gang involves attacking their targets with weapons such as knives, and then stealing their motorcycles and other valuables. Once the theft is successful, the motorcycles are dismantled and sold as spare parts, while the part with the chassis number is thrown into a pond to erase any traces.

As for the second organized gang of thieves, in addition to motorcycles, they steal mobile phones, also in the Zinder region, and sell them to local receivers or ship them to Maimoujia to be disposed of. In total, six (6) people have been arrested, and two (2) others are actively being sought.

This serves as an example for those individuals who seek only to harm others for their own interests. It is an opportunity to call on the population of this region and Niger as a whole to be vigilant and cautious. Also, close collaboration between the population and the security forces is necessary to neutralize these criminals.

In a context where terrorism is rampant, it is important to take appropriate measures to prevent terrorists from finding loopholes or being able to swell their ranks with delinquent accomplices.
