In Niger, three days after the launch of the National Refoundation Conference by General Abdourahamane Tiani, president of the CNSP, the sub-committees in charge of economy, diplomacy, and justice presented their interim reports. These discussions are part of the five key areas defined by Decree 2025-086 of February 8, 2025: peace and security, political and institutional refoundation, economy and sustainable development, geopolitics and international environment, justice and human rights.

The sub-committee on economy and sustainable development, led by Tsalha Haladou, revealed the conclusions of three working groups on Tuesday. The report, which will be submitted to the National Commission on Wednesday, is organized into four dimensions: economic, environmental, social, and governance. It emphasizes the “confirmation of national sovereignty” in resource management, addressing the concerns of Interior Minister Mohamed Toumba regarding the protection of the country’s natural resources.

On the international front, the geopolitical sub-committee proposes a reorientation of Niger’s diplomacy, aimed at strengthening the Sahel States Confederation towards a future Federation. This proposal aligns with General Tiani’s warnings against the “sly destabilizing maneuvers” and reflects a desire to consolidate regional alliances.

Finally, the justice and human rights sub-committee is finalizing its report, which will be presented in plenary on Wednesday. These discussions are part of one of the four goals set by the Head of State during the launch of the conference: defining the duration of the transition period and the charter that will govern it.

Once validated by the National Commission, the proposals from the three sub-committees will guide the next steps of the National Refoundation Conference, marking a key milestone in the refounding process of Niger.
