Niger: General Abdourahamane Tiani and his commitment to public health

President General Abdourahamane Tiani has taken a significant step in improving health services for Nigeriens with the inauguration of cancer treatment activities through radiotherapy at the National Cancer Control Center in Niamey. With the installation of the linear accelerator (LINAC), the country now has modern infrastructure to combat this disease that affects thousands of people every year.

During the official launch ceremony, General Tiani expressed his pride in this significant advancement: “This is a great pride for all Nigeriens, as well as for our neighboring countries,” he stated. Emphasizing the importance of this new technology, he noted that this center will provide comprehensive care for cancer patients. The Head of State highlighted the crucial issue of early detection, asserting that “cancer is one of the most widespread diseases, and late diagnosis does not allow for effective intervention. However, early screening can lead to action and healing”.

With this radiotherapy center, Niger positions itself as a key player in public health in West Africa.

This project is also a symbol of hope for neighboring countries, which will be able to benefit from the services of this state-of-the-art facility. The Nigerien Head of State further emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader plan to improve access to healthcare for all Nigeriens, with ambitious projects for other medical specialties in the coming years.
