Niger/Justice: Case of Salem Mohamed Bazoum against the State

The lawyers of the State of Niger have reportedly appealed, in the case of the son of the former Nigerien president, Salem Mohamed Bazoum. The latter’s release was ordered on 6 October last by the Court of First Instance of Niamey.

According to the information, by ruling publicly and in first instance on Friday, October 06, 2023 for the release of Salem Mohamed Bazoum, a period of fifteen (15) days had been attached to the decision for notice of appeal. What the lawyers of the State of Niger did.

By this act of the lawyers of the State of Niger, a new stage of this judicial procedure is launched and promises to be long in view of the pace that the file takes. As a reminder, Salem Mohmaed Bazoum has been kept since the coup of July 26, in the presidential residence with his parents.

It should also be noted that still in the context of this case, the lawyers of the ousted president Mohamed Bazoum, his wife Hadiza Ben Mabrouk Bazoum and his son Salem Bazoum had also filed a complaint, on September 18, against the State of Niger, before the ECOWAS Court of Justice for “violations of their constitutional rights” and more specifically, “arbitrary arrest and detention”.

In accordance with ongoing proceedings at the level of the Community court, the State Judicial Agency (AJE) has been seized to make its observations and remarks and the investigation of the file is proceeding in Abuja where the wise men of CEDEA sit
