Niger: Niamey inaugurates the “His Majesty King Mohammed VI” power plant
Niger is celebrating a major milestone in its energy development with the inauguration of the “His Majesty King Mohammed VI” Power Plant, located in the Gamkaley industrial zone in Niamey. This modern infrastructure, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, has a production capacity of 22.5 MVA (20 MW).
A result of strengthened cooperation between Niger and Morocco, this plant exemplifies the commitment of both nations to promoting a strategic partnership for sustainable development and regional integration.
The commissioning of this plant also marks a significant step toward Niger’s energy independence. It will reduce the country’s reliance on imports while promoting a more reliable and accessible energy supply. This infrastructure reflects the government’s ambition, under the leadership of President Abdourahmane Tiani, to diversify its electricity production sources and energize its economy.
The inauguration was praised by local and Moroccan authorities, as well as international partners. The “His Majesty King Mohammed VI” Power Plant is expected to become a symbol of successful pan-African cooperation and a development catalyst for the region.
