Niger: NIPHAH, a new era for the pharmaceutical industry

0

Niger takes a major step forward in the pharmaceutical field with the official creation of the Nigerien Pharmaceutical Industries (NIPHAR). On Friday, February 7, 2025, during the Council of Ministers, a decree was adopted to establish this public industrial and commercial entity. NIPHAR will replace the Nigerien Society of Pharmaceutical Industries (SONIPHAR), whose operations, since its establishment in 2008, have always reflected those of a public institution despite its designation as a company.

This reform aligns with the enlightened vision of President Abdourahamane Tiani, who is determined to revitalize the country and strengthen its autonomy in the health sector. NIPHAR’s primary mission will be to produce, distribute, and market medications and medical equipment. Additionally, it will oversee the manufacture and distribution of parapharmaceutical products, contributing to improving healthcare offerings and reducing the country’s dependence on pharmaceutical imports.

The government’s initiative demonstrates a clear commitment to restructuring key sectors of the economy to better meet the needs of the population. The establishment of NIPHAR represents a strategic advancement, ensuring greater accessibility to medicines and more effective regulation of the national pharmaceutical market. This transformation is also a tangible proof of the President’s commitment to equipping Niger with efficient institutions adapted to the country’s socio-economic realities.

Through this reform, Niger aims to establish pharmaceutical sovereignty by developing a dynamic local industry capable of meeting the healthcare needs of the population. NIPHAR will also foster job creation, stimulate industrial growth, and encourage partnerships with national and international stakeholders in the sector.

Ultimately, this initiative reflects President Abdourahamane Tiani’s determination to lift the country from its challenges by implementing sustainable and innovative solutions. The creation of NIPHAR is a decisive step toward a more efficient and resilient healthcare system that serves all Nigeriens.
