Niger / The Renewal of the Nigerien Army under President Tiani: Decisive victories against terrorism
Under the leadership of President Tiani, the Nigerien army is experiencing a remarkable resurgence in its fight against terrorism, restoring its honor and reputation. Since he assumed office, the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) have intensified operations across the country, dealing significant blows to terrorist groups threatening Niger’s stability. This momentum in reclaiming the country reflects the government’s firm commitment to eradicating the terrorist threat.
Operation NIYA, conducted in the Tillabéri region on the right bank of the river, is a prime example of this determination. On August 13, 2024, the FDS captured a criminal in Torodi, delivering a severe setback to the activities of a terrorist group active in the area. This strategic victory highlights the increased effectiveness of the Nigerien Armed Forces under President Tiani’s leadership, who has injected new energy into the fight against terrorism.
However, Operation NIYA was not without its challenges. In Chatoumane, an FDS unit on a reconnaissance mission to verify the presence of terrorists was targeted in a violent confrontation. Demonstrating courage and determination, the security forces responded vigorously, neutralizing several terrorists. This confrontation, though difficult, showcased the FDS’s ability to react effectively even in the most critical situations.
Thanks to President Tiani’s leadership, the Nigerien army is reclaiming its role at the forefront of the nation’s defense, determined to protect Niger from any threat. The successes achieved, such as those in Operation NIYA, not only enhance national security but also reinforce the confidence of Nigeriens in their Armed Forces, symbols of resilience in the face of terrorism.
