Nigeria: Death of Nollywood Star Actor, John Okafor, AKA “Mr. Ibu”
There seems to be a misunderstanding here. As of my last update in January 2022, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, the Nigerian actor, was alive. It’s crucial to verify such news from credible sources before sharing or believing it. If there are any recent developments, I wouldn’t be aware of them.
John Okafor appeared in over 200 Nollywood films. The comedic actor hailed from Enugu, in the southeast of Nigeria, just like Cynthia, a fan of the actor. « He played a very significant role in the childhood of almost all Nigerians. His movies were one of the things that made us happy ! » she exclaimed.
John Okafor was best known by the stage name Mr. Ibu, one of his recurring roles in films of the same name, released during the 2000. Towards the end of his career, he briefly ventured into music and released a few songs in 2020.
Bali, a producer in Lagos, points out that the actor paved the way for a young generation of Nigerian comedians who now share their sketches on social media platforms.
« He’s a bit like our Eddie Murphy ! And we must remember that he truly was a trailblazer in Nollywood comedies. He was a typical Igbo man, and his movies were satirical reflections of Nigerian culture and society » the producer recounts.
In recent months, Mr. Ibu had been facing health issues, to the extent that he underwent a leg amputation last December. After a prolonged hospitalization, the actor passed away from a heart attack at a hospital in Lagos on Saturday, March 2nd, at the age of 62.
