Niger: People refuse corridor from Benin

Benin supported the opening of a corridor for UN humanitarian assistance. But dams at the entrance to Niger do not facilitate the delivery of the convoy, which clearly shows that Nigeriens does not want this coming corridor. This is due to the strained relations between the two countries.

Recall that Benin made and continues to be part of these ECOWAS countries, in collusion with their Master France, to support a military intervention in Niger. Benin has executed to the letter the sanctions decided by the sub-regional community, closing its border with Niger. The Pic was for Benin, to serve as a base to attack Niger. All this proved sufficiently that Benin separated from its neighbour Niger, when the latter needed him.  So opening any corridor to Nigeriens would be a diversion.

«It is the people who say they do not want the Benin corridor. It is a real diversion. It is deception. We assume that Benin has declared war on Niger. President Patrice Talon, agrees to serve as a base for assaulting Niger illegally. That is an act we cannot tolerate. When the Nigeriens needed that help, they blocked it. Now, we have acquired resilience, we don’t even need it anymore. And in any case, sovereignty has a price and the people of Niger have agreed to that price» said Elh Idi Abdou, a civil society actor in Niger.

Everything that comes from Patrice Talon is suspicious and undesirable for the junta.
