Olivier Létang’s shocking revelations about Osimhen’s transfer: a blow for LOSC
Four years after his departure from Lille, Victor Osimhen remains a hot topic at LOSC. Olivier Létang, the club’s current president, has recently disclosed new, explosive details about the controversial transfer that sent the Nigerian striker to Napoli in 2020.
The saga, which has rattled both French and Italian football for years, began in the summer of 2020. After a stellar season in Ligue 1, where Osimhen finished as one of the league’s top scorers with 13 goals, several European clubs expressed interest in him. On July 31, 2020, he signed a five-year contract with Napoli for a reported €75 million. The deal also included four players moving to Lille, though many of them are no longer professional footballers.
Soon after the transfer, investigations were launched in both France and Italy regarding potential financial fraud in the deal. Lille filed a complaint over the alleged overvaluation of Osimhen’s transfer price, which led to raids at both the Lille and Napoli offices. The case is still ongoing.
Olivier Létang, who took over as president in December 2020, continues his legal battle against the previous LOSC management, particularly Gérard Lopez, whom he holds responsible for the club’s financial troubles. In a recent interview, Létang revealed a startling figure: while the transfer was valued at €75 million, the amount that actually reached Lille’s coffers was only €7 million, after accounting for various intermediaries and player exchanges. Létang emphasized that the club made more profit from other player sales like Carlos Baléba and Sven Botman.
Létang’s revelations have further fueled his confrontation with Lopez, whom he accuses of mismanaging the club and nearly leading it to financial ruin.
