Rapper MHD, sentenced to 12 years in prison for murder, released before his appeal trial
The Parisian artist, who had appealed his conviction in October, has made a request for release validated on Thursday by the court of appeal.
MHD is once again free. The rapper, sentenced to twelve years in prison for murder last September, made a request for release that was validated this Thursday by the chamber of the court of appeal in Paris, according to his lawyer, Me Élise Arfi. He was released immediately.
The artist and eight other men were judged in September 2023 for participating in a deadly expedition in July 2018 in Paris, which cost the life of a 23-year-old man. On the night of July 5 to 6, 2018, Loïc K. was deliberately run over by a Mercedes in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, then beaten by about ten men and stabbed. He died from his injuries a few minutes after his attackers left.
At the heart of the case is a settling of scores between young people from the Chaufourniers estate, nicknamed the red estate, where the accused come from, and the neighboring estate of La Grange aux Belles, located in the 10th and 19th arrondissements.
The rapper was implicated by several witnesses who claimed that he was at the crime scene, which he has always denied.
