Real Madrid is furious with the refereeing after Vinícius Júnior’s outburst during their dramatic 2-1 victory over Valencia at Mestalla on Friday night. The match, initially scheduled for November 2 but postponed due to deadly floods in southeastern Spain, saw Madrid come from behind with goals from Luka Modric (85′) and Jude Bellingham (90+5′) to take all three points. However, it was the red card issued to Vinícius that stole the spotlight.

The Brazilian winger was sent off in the 79th minute for a violent reaction toward Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski. After a confrontation with the keeper, which saw Vinícius pushed and initially awarded a yellow card, the referee upgraded the sanction to a red for what was deemed an intentional strike to the head. Real Madrid strongly disagrees with the decision. Coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed that he believes the situation could have been resolved with a yellow card for both players, and the club plans to appeal the red card.

The incident has sparked outrage within Madrid, and the club is seeking to overturn the suspension, which could see Vinícius miss up to four matches. Real Madrid TV dedicated a significant portion of its post-match analysis to questioning the referee’s decision, with some voices accusing the Spanish refereeing system of bias. Despite Vinícius issuing an apology on social media, the controversy continues to dominate discussions in Madrid, where emotions are running high over what they view as an unjust expulsion.
