Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United overhaul: Manuel Ugarte’s future in question

0

Ruben Amorim, the new manager of Manchester United, has been in charge for nearly a month and has already conducted an initial assessment of his squad. Although his start included a draw against Ipswich Town and a mixed record (3 wins, 1 draw, 2 losses), the Portuguese coach is working to establish his influence on a team he finds underwhelming.

Faced with a challenging situation, Amorim must work within a limited transfer budget, reportedly set at €30 million for January 2025, although this amount could increase if certain players are sold.

Among those deemed expendable are Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, and Rasmus Højlund. However, it is Manuel Ugarte, who joined the club just six months ago for €60 million from PSG, that could also be on his way out. Despite the Uruguayan’s 17 appearances for Manchester United this season, he is not considered “untouchable” by the club. Amorim, who knows Ugarte from their time together at Sporting CP, may not rely on him in the long term.

If an attractive offer comes in, Ugarte, valued at €50 million, could be sold, with PSG set to receive 10% of any resale fee. Manchester United is poised to make crucial decisions for the future, with potential departures and adjustments to strengthen the squad in the coming months.
