Sahel : AES Prime Ministers meet in Niamey for a two-day working session
After the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Ministers of Economy and Finance of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger in Bamako, Mali, on November 30, 2023, to define the institutional architecture of the Sahel States Alliance (AES), it’s now the turn of the Prime Ministers to gather in Niamey.
Mr. Choguel Kokala Maiga and Mr. Apollinaire Joachim Kyelem de Tambala, respectively, the heads of the transitional governments of Mali and Burkina Faso, arrived on the afternoon of Friday, December 29, 2023, in Niamey for a working and friendship visit.
This meeting will serve to review everything that has been concluded in previous meetings, defining the institutional architecture of the AES and promoting strategic coordination, security cooperation, and efficient management of transboundary resources. It will also aim to preserve the sovereignty of the AES and build a stronger and more prosperous future for the peoples of this region.
The two-day meeting has the specific goal of deepening and finalizing discussions on the economic development plan of the AES, particularly the implementation of significant projects in the fields of energy, infrastructure, transportation, and food security. The Ministers of Economy and Finance also recommended the creation of a stabilization fund and an investment bank for the AES, as well as the establishment of a committee to further explore issues related to the economic and monetary union of Liptako.
On the agenda for the stay in Niamey of the Prime Ministers of the AES, there are meetings with the highest authorities of Niger, a working session that will be concluded with a press conference. On the second day of their visit, the guests of Ali Mahaman Lamine will participate on Sunday in Agadez in the final of the 44th edition of traditional wrestling taking place there.
