Sahel: Strategic meeting of AES Prime Ministers in Niamey
On Monday, December 30, 2024, the Prime Ministers of Niger, Ali Lamine Zeine, Mali, Abdoulaye Maïga, and Burkina Faso, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, met in Niamey for a meeting focused on implementing the roadmap of the Sahel States Confederation (AES). This collective commitment marks a crucial step in consolidating the vision of the founding fathers of the Alliance, aiming to strengthen the sovereignty, development, and resilience of their respective nations.
The day began with an audience granted to the three heads of government by General Abdourahamane Tiani, President of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP) and President of the Republic of Niger. On this occasion, President Tiani provided strategic guidance to steer the efforts of the Prime Ministers in the diligent implementation of public policies reflecting the AES vision.
Following the meeting, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, the Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, was designated to deliver a report on behalf of his peers. He emphasized the importance of discussions with President Tiani, stating that these directives would serve as a compass to address the challenges and realize the ambitions of the Sahel States Confederation. “We have received wise counsel and guidance that will enable us to translate into action public policies aimed at the well-being of our people and effectively address all adversities”, he stated.
This meeting highlights the member states’ determination to present a united front against the security and socio-economic challenges affecting the region. It also underscores their commitment to working for strengthened sovereignty and harmonious development, in line with the aspirations of their populations.
