Saudi Pro League : Cristiano Ronaldo once again in controversy !
An investigation has been launched into Cristiano Ronaldo’s purportedly obscene response to taunts from “Messi” while playing for Al-Nassr. The Portuguese superstar once again led his team to victory with a 3-2 win over Al-Shabab in the Saudi Pro League on Sunday.
During the match, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner reportedly reacted to spectators in the stands chanting the name of his eternal rival, Lionel Messi.
A video surfaced showing Ronaldo gesturing towards the crowd after scoring his 34th goal of the season from a penalty against Al-Shabab. With many young supporters present, authorities in the Middle East have been urged to take action. Al-Nassr naturally seeks to defend its valuable captain against any wrongdoing, but the disciplinary and ethics committee of the Saudi Football Federation has initiated an inquiry and will review all available evidence before deciding on the next steps.
According to the Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper, which cites sources within the committee, a decision will be made within the next 48 hours. Committee members are eager to act swiftly and decisively as many Saudis are disappointed and angry over Ronaldo’s alleged antics.
Cristiano risks being banned if found guilty of an offense, which would prevent him from participating in crucial matches as Al-Hilal fights to maintain its lead in the Saudi Pro League. If spared, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will return to action against Al-Hazm on Thursday.
