SENEGAL: OUSMANE SONKO REFUSES TO BE FREE
According to a reliable source, behind-the-scenes negotiations were conducted for the release of President Pastef. However, he refused all the proposals of the authorities, which prevented his release.Senegalese opponent Ousmane Sonko was charged and jailed on 31 July for various crimes, including calling for insurrection. Less than two hours after this decision, his party, the Pastef, was dissolved by decree. He subsequently went on a hunger strike.
The authorities tried to trap him by exiling him to Guinea on the pretext that he was going to seek medical treatment. The release of Pastef’s leader is subject to certain conditions, which it is assumed that he will never accept.
The Pastef leader categorically rejected the conditions proposed by the authorities. A famous marabout is said to have visited Sonko in an attempt to dissuade him from his political career, but the leader seems determined and does not give in.
