Serie A: Morata returns to Italy!
After two years at Atlético, the captain of the Spanish national team has been transferred to AC Milan, who paid his release clause. The Spanish international has signed with the Lombard club until June 2028.
Álvaro Morata spoke about his situation during the Euro. Despite having a strong season with Atlético Madrid (15 goals in La Liga) and winning the Euro 2024 with Spain, he feels less appreciated in his home country. “This is my honest opinion, but as I often say, there are times when it’s tough for me in Spain. I’m tired of being seen as a victim, of being criticized. I just want it to end well and enjoy it, because this could be my last tournament with the national team”.
Fed up with criticism from his own people, Morata seized the opportunity offered by AC Milan, under Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paulo Fonseca. Prioritized to strengthen the attack, Morata officially joins the Rossoneri, who paid his release clause of €13 million. “AC Milan is proud to announce the signing of Álvaro Borja Morata Martín from Atlético Madrid. Captain of the Spanish national team, with whom he recently won the European Championship, Morata has signed with the Rossoneri until June 30, 2028, with an option for an additional year”, reads the official statement from the Italian club.
At 31, Álvaro Morata confirms his pattern of not staying more than two years at any club. After being trained at Real Madrid and then sold to Juventus in 2014, the Spanish striker spent two seasons in Piedmont before returning to his former club. A one-year comeback was followed by a transfer to Chelsea and then an 18-month loan to Atlético.
Bought by Atlético in 2019, Morata later returned to Juventus on a two-year loan. Returning to Madrid in 2022, the new European champion has now decided to move again, but this time not back to Juventus.
