Soccer / AFCON 2025: Bafana Bafana conclude successful campaign

South Africa has confirmed its status as a serious contender for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) by finishing the qualifiers in brilliant fashion.

After a successful run in Ivory Coast at the 2023 AFCON, where they earned a deserved third-place finish, Bafana Bafana continued their momentum by dominating Group K with authority, amassing 14 points in the standings.

In the 6th and final matchday of the qualifiers, Hugo Broos’ team delivered a solid performance against South Sudan. From the kick-off, the South Africans imposed their pace. Iqraam Rayners opened the scoring in the 7th minute, taking advantage of a disorganized opposing defense. Shortly after, in the 22nd minute, Patrick Maswanganyi doubled the lead, solidifying Bafana Bafana’s advantage before the break (2-0).

In the second half, South Africa continued their dominance. Teboho Mokoena converted a penalty in the 50th minute, sealing a convincing 3-0 victory for his team.

Bafana Bafana demonstrated remarkable consistency throughout the qualifiers. With a united squad and players in excellent form, South Africa is emerging as a team to watch in the 2025 AFCON.
