Solenzo: A decisive anti-terrorist operation carried out by the Burkina Faso army, early January 2025

Under the strategic leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of Faso, the Burkinabe armed forces launched a major counterterrorism operation in early January in the town of Solenzo, in the Boucle du Mouhoun region. This operation led to the neutralization of at least thirty terrorists, marking a significant step in the fight against insecurity in the northwest of the country.

Beyond the losses inflicted on armed groups, the operation resulted in the seizure of strategic materials, including motorcycles, phones, and 80 detonators intended for making improvised explosive devices. These seizures reduce the operational capacity of the terrorist groups active in the region and strengthen the security of local populations.

This success is the result of a military strategy focused on responsiveness and operational intelligence. It highlights the commitment of the defense and security forces (FDS) to defend the national territory against terrorist threats, despite logistical and security challenges.

Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s leadership continues to inspire confidence, both within the armed forces and among the population, united in the hope of a Burkina Faso free from the terrorist threat.
